Bento # 655

It is all the bikes' fault. I'd all but forgotten I'd bought those bike-shaped pasta but when I saw them in my bag of "funny pasta" I keep around, I got the idea to the traffic light scenario. And since it's far too seldom I have a reason to use my hiragana-cutters, I leapt to the possibility here and wrote とまれ (STOP!)

The horribly overexposed blob in the corner is a Cinnamoroll-shaped egg btw. I hate photographing eggs...

Italian Bento

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Leftover Bruschetta from tonight's dinner are the main part then there are multi coloured tomatoes, some sort of sesame biscuit thing, two fruit gummys and some druit fruits and almonds and then a sort of italian brioche/cornetto thing with protective baking paper in case the apricot jam oozes.  The brioche thing was the result of a terrible recipe that managed to produce something delicious but was so not what I set out to cook!
After a week of no bento, here's #4! I was pleased with how this one turned out visually, even though I'm sure there's still room for improvement. Same for the photography. I'm definitely getting more used to how much food I need for a satisfying lunch.

Top: baby carrots, two leftover meatballs, brussels sprouts
Bottom: the rest of the brussels sprouts, roast beef and swiss cheese wrap

Bento #3, yesterday's bento, didn't come out that great, so I'll put it behind the cut.

Comfort food

Chicken noodle casserole with a very small amount of mashed potatoes
Red and green grapes

Snackish

Grapes, flower/star carrots, pumpkin cake muffins, peanuts, Hershey's kiss, hotdog crab

I want to have more vegetables in my lunches, but I can't really get the fresh stuff. Anyone know any recipes (or where to find them) for frozen vegetables in one or two servings?

As always, if my pictures are too big, let me know. :-) Thanks!

Bento #56

I haven't posted in a while, but I haven't had time to make a bento for lunch lately.  So here's today's lunch.

Right Section: ham sandwich with muenster, pickles and mustard
Left Section: apple sauce, salad (w/ carrots, tomatoes and red peppers) and caesar dressing

I havent' posted in about a week - for several reasons. First of all, bento # 560, 2which should have been a little more celebratory ended up rather pathetic - but then it was made after I came home from a party and I was pretty far from being sober, so all things considered, it turned out ok I think. Then I was busy with various RL stuff, then out internet had a break down (OMG withdrawal-victims screaming and shouting all over the place!)
But now I'm back ^_^

Fall Walk
Fall Walk
My family has been doing a lot of hiking this fall. As fall is wrapping up I put together this bento to commemorate these hikes. Tucked underneath are some brown rice and herb encrusted fish (leftover from last nights dinner). This is topped with roasted pepper leaves, a mixture of dried apricots and mangoes and some recess pieces.
Finger Tips
Finger Tips
My daughter is a big fan of the children's craft and cooking show Finger Tips. She saw the recipe for Omelette Faces and asked if we could make them (recipe can be found here). The two best went into Daddy's lunch for the next day, along with some veggies and a tapioca pudding.

609: leftovers

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I cleaned out the fridge on Friday and packed a bunch of leftovers for Muffin. Lately I just cannot seem to rouse myself to add any "cute" touches, I feel kind of bad about that. But on the other hand, I feel pretty good that I'm even making bento at all right now. Too much going on! So, sorry for the lack of cute. But arranging a lunch bento-style does do an effective job of using up a bunch of little leftovers.

Bento #107 - Glazed Meatballs

Today's Bento:

Bird's Eye View )

Left to Right:
1 - Broccoli & Grape Tomato
2 - Onigiri (cylinders) Wrapped in Turkey Lunch Meat and an Egg Sheet
3 - Meatballs glazed with an spicy orange & ginger sauce
4 - Baby Patty Pan Squash, sauteed
5 - Carrots

WW Flex Points = 7

The glaze I used to coat the meatballs is one I use frequently, it's very versatile and holds up equally as well on beef as it does on hearty fish (like salmon), poultry and pork.  It is the same glaze I used in Bento #40.  I've repeated the recipe here for your convenience.

Pantry bento

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

The fridge was utterly devoid of anything resembling a vegetable this evening so I see a supermarket shop in my future!  What I managed to scrape together for lunch tomorrow was a rare roast beef sandwich, homemade madeleines, mini cheddars, a Twix, a plum and some Bel Paese cheese.

I doubt that this will all be eaten but I was desperately trying to find things to fill space.  What kind of things can I add to the freezer stash for emergencies like this that are gap fillers rather than 'mains'?  I have plenty of larger things in there but it's the little things that are eluding me!

I make a bento :D

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have no reason at all for making a bento, I don't go anywhere during the day, but I wanted to anyways. I will eat this tomorrow. Oh yeah this is my very first bento :D

Bastami rice with butter and salt, boiled potatoes, green beans, brussel sprouts, american cheese flowers with pimento center, octopus hotdog, and onions cooked with the boiled potatoes.

I ate the bits and pieces that were left over for dinner and it is yummy :D

I'm not really sure if this is allowed, but I'll ask anyway.  Since Ichiban Kan online closed I haven't really been able to find a cheap store like. Even J-list is too steep for me.  So I was wondering if any of you guys are selling your boxes/accessories for cheap? I wouldn't mind buying used as long as everything is in good condition.  I'm mostly looking for more boxes in different shapes and sizes and functional accessories like silicone cups and such.

Thanks!

Salmon Salad Bento Box

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Salmon Salad that can be rolled up or not. Saba Man's choice.

Read more on hapabento blog.

now i know these are NOT classic Bento boxes (or even close, really) but many of us Bento fans also like the Laptop Lunchbox system.. so i thought i would ask here....

the webpage has a sale going on on the original "Laptop Lunchbox" in a carton of 24 sets.
now obviously most of us have no need for 24 of the things.... but i was wondering if enough of us have any interest..... we could do a group order and split a case.avoiding shipping.... ) (i personally would like the black ones with teh red interior trays as they look more classicaly Japanese... and more grown up)

i have no financial interest in the company, nor do i usually retail these... i just like them and thought getting them at about half off retail was a good idea.
